Wearable art with a story
This mid-length kimono duster reimagines Alexandre Cabanel’s luminous 1873 painting Pandora through an original collage. Instead of the box she is so often shown carrying, Pandora cradles a simple nest, transforming the story into one of hope.
Behind her, the sweeping wings of a white swan become her own. Its graceful neck crosses before her face until the two share a single eye, symbolizing wholeness and the balance between shadow and light. Fresh apple blossoms, tender spring leaves, and delicate botanicals adapted from antique hand-painted illustrations evoke the first bright days of spring. The nest comes from an 1847 painting by William Henry Hunt, while drifting swan feathers add a dreamlike finish. Elegant green trim, adapted from a French silk twill wall panel dating to 1785, frames the design.
