A print with a story to tell
Designed to create a layered, almost trompe l’oeil effect, Book of Love combines hand-painted, fringed banners from the 1800s, a tangled garden illustration from a Parisian perfume advertisement, scraps of 18th-century floral fabric, antique swallows, and a romantic doorway from an 1885 French book of drapery and design. A figure borrowed from Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus carries the banner of Hope, while antique hand-painted lettering repeats Faith, Hope, Love.
